About Hurry Curry of Tokyo - Santa Monica
Hurry Curry of Tokyo first opened its doors in our West Los Angeles location in 1989. After spending time researching Japanese curry houses in Tokyo in the 1980βs, our goal was to bring the wonderful flavors and value of these popular restaurants to Los Angeles. Working with Japanese chefs from Tokyo, we developed our own original blend of 21 spices for our signature curry sauce. Our customers tell us this is why they keep coming back.
Our stylish and exciting decor is highlighted by a selection of large, original color photographs depicting life and the βscene β in Tokyo circa 1990. Our photographer spent a week in Tokyo and captured the essence of that vibrant city in daily life.

First time dining in after ordering from here for years. I had a wonderful lunch experience in their outdoors patio, complete with shade for a sunny day. Food was delicious as always and even better fresh. Employee was kind and attentive enough to check in every 12 to 15 minutes, including removing any finished plates and dishes. Definitely worth a coming back.

Years ago, my friends and I would go to their Sawtelle location every year for Friendsgiving. It was a tradition that we had. When they closed that location it was very bittersweet. Now this latest location is a smaller place but still the same great great food. I ordered the Pork Cutlet, but instead of curry I asked for the white sauce. Just how I used to order it. The only difference really is rather than being greeted by a host to show us to our table, we just walk in order at the counter and they bring it to our table, wherever we may sit. Please come in and enjoy the food.

Nice, and relaxed atmosphere. Order at rhe register and they will bring you your food. Roughly 5 sets of tables for groups of 4, but they can be split into pairs, and there are 2 other single tables for 2 seaters. 3 chairs at the bar window and 1 large table for a group of 6 (estimate). Had the chicken cutlet curry, calamari and for the money, definitely worth the money. Ordered a katsu sandwich to go. Only issue I have is parking: 1 hour parking on a Sunday evening at 6pm was $15. You can find street parking for free or at a meter for less, if available. With that said, I imagine this food is great as a takeout option so a quick in and out will be no issue.

The beef curry here is outstandingly delicious. I've had beef curry at a lot of places, but this is the best in Los Angeles. The meat is well-cooked and there's a lot of it, so I'm very satisfied. Strongly recommended!!!

A humble katsu curry spot in the Santa Monica area. It s very easy to order and the food comes out moderately quickly. I appreciate the curry coming in a separate bowl from everything else, so you can easily pour or portion your curry with your katsu and rice. It wasnβt super busy when I went for dinner too, which I appreciated. I would probably come back here over places like Coco Ichibanya since that place is always loud and has a long line.
The Baseline a year ago
The Baseline: For Japanese curry the sauce must have body with spice/flavor, the meats must be prepared well, the add ons must be good, and the environment must be welcoming. Food: This is an awesome curry place and I used to frequent the old Sawtelle location until it closed and Hurry Curry left us wanting in Los Angeles. Now they are back at this new location and my curry happiness has been fulfilled once more. The fried chicken Karaage was crisp and hot, mixed well with the spicy heat of the curry. I enjoyed the spice level and only went to a medium level which was a good level. It can go to extra hot spice which I think can be too much. Service: The service was great. Food was delivered to the table quickly and the staff was friendly. Gave me a bowl of pickled ginger to accompany my curry. My tea and water glass was filled consistently. Ambiance: This location is a nice, clean place with fun decor. Restrooms were clean and serviced. Very nice outdoor area for dining during warmer weather.

We loved coming here when they were located in sawtelle and still really enjoy their food in the new location. Miss the table service, but ordering at the counter and then sitting down brought the food out super quick. The curry fries are da π£ and the chicken in white sauce is different and delicious. They have ample outdoor seating and parking is in the lot behind the shopping center. A great addition to Ocean Park neighborhood.

An amazing place to have the most wonderful Tokyo Style Curry. Fist of all, itβs absolutely delicious and tastes so fresh, personally Iβm addicted to their lobster bisque, portions are very generous and you can even upgrade with delicious add-ons. Selection is also amazing something for everyone. Service is amazing, the most friendly service with a personal touch. This is definitely the place you want to be a regular at.
